Laxton’s Superb which is a cross between Cox’s Orange Pippin and Wyken Pippin was raised by Laxton Brothers of Bedford in 1897. It received the RHS Award of Merit in 1919 and a First Class Certificate in 1921.

Its ground colour is pale green-yellow flushed with light purplish-red with light russeting at either end of the fruit. It is partly covered by broken red stripes. Lenticels are very prominent and present as large russet spots. Its flesh is white with a slight green tinge. It is a refreshing, crisp, juicy apple.

Laxton’s Superb is picked in October and will store round to January. At Rivers Nursery we have quite a number of trees of this variety and we frequently use them to produce excellent juice.
